Austrian company Rupp invests in cheese for the Chinese market
Rupp, a historic Austrian cheese producer founded in 1908, is planning to invest €5 million in a new facility in the city of Tianjin, China, which will produce fresh cheese ready for further processing and sale in the Chinese market.
The project will be carried through as a joint venture with a Taiwanese company and will employ around a hundred people.
Headquartered in Hörbranz in the western Austrian region of Vorarlberg, Rupp has around 600 employees and in 2016 produced 50,000 tons of processed and natural cheese (of which 90% is exported), generating a turnover of €170 million.
To make up for the lack of qualified personnel, in the future the company plans to invest strongly in automation.
