Barilla acquires Pasta Zara’s Muggia plant

Barilla Group is set to acquire the Muggia plant owned by Pasta Zara, the pasta producer based in Riese Pio X (province of Treviso) which entered into an arrangement with creditors several months ago following a court order.

The Muggia plant has a production capacity of 120,000-130,000 tonnes and an estimated value of €120 million, which Pasta Zara will be able to use as part of its settlement with creditors.

Under the terms of the agreement, Pasta Zara undertakes to purchase the pasta produced at the Muggia facility for at least five years, thereby saving the existing contracts for its product in the private label market (around 80% of its total output).

The plants in Riese Pio X and Rovato (Brescia) will remain under the control of the founding Bragagnolo family.
