Bunge sells sugar operations to Wilmar

Singapore-based agribusiness firm Wilmar International has acquired the sugar trading operations of US giant Bunge, which will maintain solely its production assets in Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer and exporter.

The sale is part of Bunge’s efforts to minimise exposure to a sugar unit that has been in financial difficulties since 2013.

The New York-based company, listed on the NYSE, also has operations in the oilseed and cereals segments with approximately 32,000 employees in more than 40 countries worldwide and total 2017 sales of US $45.8 billion.
