Campari broadens its cognac portfolio
Campari group is continuing its series of acquisitions aimed at expanding its core business of spirits.
The Milan-based group, which also owns the French brand Grand Marnier, has signed an agreement with South African group Distell to purchase the premium cognac brand Bisquit for a sum of €52.2 million. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
Founded in 1819 by Alexandre Bisquit, the Bisquit Cognac brand is renowned for its excellence and luxuriousness and in 2018 is expected to generate a turnover of around €9 million, driven mainly by sales in South Africa, Belgium and Switzerland.
The operation will enable Campari, the world’s sixth largest producer of premium spirits, to increase its growth potential in the United States and China, two markets where cognac sales are growing rapidly.
