Castello Banfi promotes sustainability in Brunello wine production
Italian winery Castello Banfi (Montalcino, province of Siena) has unveiled its first Sustainability Report.
Over a period of three years the company has succeeded in obtaining 100% of its energy from renewable sources, saving 80% of irrigation water (through micro-irrigation systems capable of adapting water consumption to the different types of soil), and cutting CO2 emissions by 15%.
Significant progress has also been made in the disposal of the highly polluting washing water using an innovative purpose-built system.
The main objective is to preserve resources for present and future generations and to promote principles of sustainability amongst other Brunello wine producers so as to cover the entire Montalcino area.
