Cocoa and cocoa derivatives: a global passion worth €123 billion
According to data published by Euromonitor, a total of €123 billion is spent annually on cocoa and cocoa derivatives worldwide, with chocolate bars accounting for no less than €30 billion.
The Swiss are the biggest chocolate lovers with per capital annual consumption of 10 kg, followed by the British (8 kg) and Italians (3 kg).
Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana account for 60% of world production, followed by Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, while China is on course to become the second largest global producer by 2020.
