Egypt opens largest fish farm in the Middle East
The largest fish farm in the Middle East was recently started up in the governorate of Kafr El-Sheik, Egypt.
The project, of which only the first phase has been completed, comprises an area of more than 4,000 acres of state-owned land and has a production capacity of around 6,600 tonnes of fish per cycle.
The project also includes industrial and residential areas and 11 kilometres of completed connecting roads.
In the second step the plant will extend over an area of more than 9,000 acres. When completed it will account for 70% of Egyptian fish production for both domestic consumption and export.
The total investment in the facility will amount to E£4 billion (around €192 million).
