Esselunga reports 3.1% revenue growth in 2016
Esselunga has posted 2016 revenues of 7.5 billion euros, an increase of 3.1% over the previous year following 4.3% growth in 2015. Net profits declined from 291 to 262 million euros due to property writedowns, while EBITDA grew to 661 million euros (from 626 million euros the previous year).
Key figures for the year include an expansion in the workforce to 22,741 employees (+811), 93% of whom have permanent contracts, and total investments of 490 million euros. In 2017 the retail chain is planning to open 5 new stores, including Roma Prenestina and Verona Fiera (5 April).
