Fonterra makes major investment in Australia
In response to growing demand for dairy products in Australia, the New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra has decided to invest some $133 million in increasing the production capacity of its Australian facilities.
In 2018 it will expand the plants at Stanhope in Northern Victoria, where production will be doubled, and at Cobden, where new robotic palletisers will be introduced on the butter production line. A new packaging line will be built in Dennington, while the plants in Wynyard and Darnum will be equipped with new technologies for boosting production.
Fonterra employs 22,000 people worldwide and operates in more than 100 countries. It has been at the forefront of New Zealand’s global exports for over 50 years and contributes over $8 billion to rural and provincial towns.
