German supermarket chain Billa reports 15% growth in Bulgaria

The German supermarket chain Billa is growing rapidly in Bulgaria and in 2016 opened 12 new stores to bring the total number of outlets to 110 (a further 10 are due to open in 2017).

As a result, the retailer reported 15% growth in operating revenues to approximately 400 million euros.

Kaufland, Lidl  and the Bulgarian chain T-Market also performed strongly, the latter with 22% sales growth (88 million euros). This performance contrasts with that of Piccadilly which has pulled out of the market, the third chain to do so in two years after Carrefour and Penny Market.
