Granarolo acquires UK-based distributor Midland Food Group

In the latest in a string of acquisitions, the Bologna, Italy-based agri-food company Granarolo has acquired complete ownership of Midland Food Group, a British chilled, ambient and frozen food distributor, through its subsidiary Granarolo UK.

Granarolo’s aim is to strengthen its position in the UK, where it will now be able to count on two logistics hubs with a structured, efficient distribution system as well as a recently launched e-commerce channel (iDeli).

Midland Food Group has been operating in the UK market for more than 40 years and has 244 employees and an expected turnover of around €70m, 30% of which is generated by the dairy sector.

Following the acquisition, the UK becomes Granarolo’s third largest market in terms of turnover after Italy and France, with the goal of raising turnover to €100m from the current €22m.
