Grupo Bimbo starts up four new lines at its Argentine plant

In anticipation of an expected upturn in exports, Grupo Bimbo (Mexico) has invested more than $20 million in expanding the production capacity of its plant in San Fernando, Argentina.

The bakery product manufacturer has started up four new production lines with a view to increasing its exports to Chile and reaching new markets such as Paraguay and Uruguay.

The Argentine plant has seen steady investment in new technology since it was acquired in March 2016, increasing its output fourfold and expanding its workforce by 30%.

This is the latest in a series of investments made by the Mexican company since the beginning of the year, including the acquisition of the Chinese baking company Mankattan and the opening of a new solar facility in Mexico City which will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 2,500 tonnes.

Grupo Bimbo has a total of 202 production plants and serves 3.1 million stores across 32 countries.
