Igor gorgonzola adopts Industry 4.0 criteria

Igor, a leading producer of gorgonzola DOP (protected designation of origin) cheese based in the province of Novara, has launched a €20 million investment programme for the technological revamping of its facility in Cameri in accordance with Industry 4.0 principles.

This includes an €8 million investment provided by Invitalia, the Italian national agency for inward investment and economic development controlled by the Ministry of the Economy.

As well as improving the efficiency of the entire production cycle, the innovations will guarantee a longer product shelf life.

The company posted revenues of €150 million in 2017 and will take on some 50 new employees. Gorgonzola DOP is produced exclusively in the two Italian regions of Piedmont and Lombardy.

Total annual production amounts to more than 4.7 million cheeses, including 2 million by Igor.
