Italian industrial refrigeration sector sees growth in domestic and export markets

According to figures published by the research department of Anima, whose member associations include Assofoodtec and Assocold (Italian industrial refrigeration plant and equipment manufacturers’ association), the Italian industrial refrigeration equipment industry is showing strong signs of growth.

In 2017 the sector posted total revenues of €955 million (up 3.9% on 2016) and is expected to register further 2% growth in 2018 to €1.015 billion. Investments are also growing, up 8.8% to €27.20 million in 2017 with a further +2.2% expected in 2018.

Exports also showed an excellent trend, up 4.2% last year with a further 2.5% growth expected in 2018 to €582 million (a 57% share of the total).

The EU accounts for 71% of exports with France as the biggest import market (€75.3 million in 2017), followed by Germany, UK and Spain.

The main non-EU markets are Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, occupying ninth and tenth positions respectively.

World trade in refrigeration equipment is driven by North America, followed by Europe and the Asia Pacific region. In 2018 the sector is expected to reach €38.8 billion (compared to €36.4 billion in 2017) and then see further growth to €53 billion in 2021.
