Italian pasta sees growth in export markets

According to figures published by AIDEPI, the Italian Association of Confectionery and Pasta Industries and promoter of the World Pasta Day celebrated on 25 October in Dubai, Italian exports continued their upward trend with growth in the first 7 months of 2018.

Germany, the UK, France and the USA were the top four markets with an average increase of 8% and peaks of 11% in France. The Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Korea and Ecuador were the countries that saw the biggest growth.

In 2017 Italy was the world’s largest pasta producer with a total of 5.4 million tonnes, 60% more than ten years ago, equivalent to 67% of total EU production in terms of both volume and value. Italy is also the EU’s top pasta exporter country with exports of 1.8 million tonnes (76% of the total of EU member countries).

The biggest pasta importers in Europe are Germany (25%) and France (23%). Outside the EU, the largest importers are the USA with 167,000 tonnes and Japan with 77,000 tonnes.
