Amazon focuses on the highly lucrative Italian market
Amazon is focusing strongly on Italy, a market where it has seen astonishing business growth in recent years (from 1 million units per year in 2011 to 1 million units in 24 hours in 2016).
The web giant is investing heavily in two new distribution centres in Rieti and Vercelli. The first will create 1200 new jobs and will involve an investment of 150 million euros, while the second project, worth 65 million euros, will create 600 new jobs.
These new centres join the locations already in operation, including the 1,500 square metre urban distribution centre in Milan for Amazon Prime customers, three recently opened sorting centres in Avigliana (Turin), Origgio (Varese) and Rogoredo (Milan), and the logistics centre with 1,500 employees in Castel San Giovanni.
