Kroger strikes deal with Nuro for the food delivery of the future

Kroger, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based retail giant with 2,800 locations across the United States, has announced an agreement with California-based startup Nuro for the use of self-driving vehicles for driverless grocery deliveries.

By increasing its investments in digital technology, Kroger hopes to keep up with its rivals and the new players in what is an extremely competitive business sector. Walmart, for example, has announced a deal with Postmates for home deliveries while Amazon intends to sign agreements with independent companies with their own delivery men.

Along with the partnership with Nuro, Korger has also struck a $250 million deal with British online grocer Ocado for automated robotic warehouse management.
