Marfrig acquires National Beef and sells Keystone Foods

The Brazilian company Marfrig Global Foods, one of the world’s largest groups in the animal protein sector, is set to acquire 51% of National Beef Packaging Co (Missouri) for a figure of €787 million.

In parallel with the investment, which is expected to be concluded within the first half of 2018, Mafrig shed its subsidiary Keystone Foods in order to reduce its level of debt.

With this acquisition, the Brazilian giant expects to reach a total of 8.3 million slaughtered animals a year and revenues of €10.3 billion, becoming the world’s second largest meat producer after its competitor JBS, also based in Brazil. It will also establish a stronger presence in the North American meat market and acquire new business opportunities in Japan and South Korea.
