Mondelēz invests $90 million in Bahrain
To meet growing consumer demand, Mondelēz International has opened a second mega facility in Bahrain, this time devoted to the production of its iconic confectionery brands, including Oreo biscuits and Barni cakes.
The new facility, which involved an investment of $90 million and has a production capacity of around 45,000 tonnes/year, joins the existing cheese and beverages plant opened in 2008.
The facility (floor area of 250,000 m2) will make an invaluable contribution to the local economy, especially in terms of employment with the creation of around 150 jobs (the two Mondelēz factories together control a supply chain that indirectly employs more than 12,000 people).
Thanks to its strategic position, Bahrain will also serve as a gateway to markets in the Middle East and Africa.
In the first quarter of 2018, Mondelēz International posted net revenues of $6.76 billion (+5.5%), EBITDA of $2.84 billion (+13%) and net profits of $938 million (+49%). It has a presence in 160 countries and in 2017 posted revenues of around $26 billion.
