Nestlé increases instant coffee production in Morocco
Nestlé recently began production of a new kind of instant coffee sold under the Nescafé Classic brand name at its facility in El Jadida (Morocco).
The factory has been operating for 25 years and produces more than 4,000 tonnes of instant coffee per year. It covers 80% of domestic demand and exports three quarters of its output to various countries in North Africa (Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia) and sub-Saharan Africa, including Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
Nestlé has invested more than €61 million in the Moroccan facility since it was built in 1993 and expanded the plant by around 1,000 square metres to make space for the new lines for the production of Nescafé Classic.
The instant coffee segment accounts for almost 35% of Nestlé’s total turnover in Morocco, which stands at around €88 million per year. The El Jadida factory also produces Nido brand milk powder from local milk.
The Nestlé factory processes more than 60 million litres out of the 500 million litres of milk produced annually in the El Jadida area, 12% of the total.
