Nestlè opens second KitKat factory in Japan

In August this year Nestlé started up a second factory in Japan (the first is located in Kasumigaura), where it will produce its famous KitKat chocolate snack bar in a range of exotic flavours tailored specifically to the local market.

The aim of the investment is to increase production capacity in response to growing consumer demand and expanding online sales.

In the new factory to be built in Himeji in the Kasai region, the Swiss food giant will produce 30 varieties of KitKat bars including the new flavours green tea, sweet potato and wasabi.

KitKat sales more than doubled in Japan between 2010 and 2016 (4 million bars sold per day), largely through the 7 chocolate boutiques located across the country.
