Tyson Food invests at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro
Tyson Food (2017 revenue US $38 billion) has made a major strategic investment in Tanzania as part of an agreement with South African company Irvine’s Group, a market leader in the poultry sector.
A series of large chicken rearing facilities will be built at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro along with numerous hatcheries in the coastal region which will produce up to 2 million broilers per month, a quantity that is more than sufficient to meet local consumption.
The operation is part of a long-term investment plan that Tyson Food is pursuing in Africa. Together with the holding company Acacia Foods B.V., last autumn it made an investment in Buchan Ltd (Irvine’s Group), which owns and controls businesses in Botswana, Mozambique and Tanzania.
