Tyson Foods focuses on organic chicken

US meat giant Tyson Foods has announced the acquisition of Tecumseh Poultry, an American company that produces organic chicken under the Smart Chicken brand name.

According to the figures for Perishables published by Nielsen, sales volumes of fresh organic chicken grew by 8.6% between 2016 and 2017, more than four times higher growth than sales of conventional chicken.

Founded in 1998, Tecumseh Poultry operates two production facilities in Nebraska, one in Tecumseh and the other at Waverly. It will continue to operate as a separate subsidiary and will maintain its entire workforce of 600 employees.

Tyson Foods already produces organic food under the NatureRaised Farms and Aidells brand names.
