Unilever considers moving to the Netherlands due to Brexit
British-Dutch consumer goods multinational Unilever is planning to move its head office to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, bringing together all the group’s activities - including two listed companies, two boards of directors and two headquarters - at a single location.
The dual corporate structure is a legacy of the 1930 merger between British soap manufacturer Lever Brothers and the Dutch company Margarine Unie.
The final decision will be taken in the second week of March and could lead to the closure of the UK head office which employs a workforce of around 7,500 people.
If the choice of Rotterdam is confirmed, the decision will inevitably be attributed to Brexit.
