According to the preliminary figures published by the MECS – Ucima Research Centre, the sector is returning to growth. Both the domestic market (+18%) and exports (+5%) are performing well. Approximately 7 months of production is guaranteed in 2022

Turnover in the first half of 2021 fell by just 1.8% compared to the same period in the record year 2019. The growth with respect to the first half of 2020 was 21%. The sector held its ground in 2020 with turnover of almost 8 billion euros. The food and cosmetics segments performed well.
Sales revenue was 9.2% higher than in March 2020 due to significant growth in the domestic market (+28.8%). The average number of months of guaranteed production is increasing again
The 4% growth in packaging machinery exports is pushing sales revenues into positive territory as the outlook remains stable for 2021. Causes of concern include rising prices of raw materials and components and maritime freight rates.
The preliminary figures from the MECS-Ucima Research Department reveal a slowdown for the sector. Small falls in both domestic sales (-6.8%) and exports (-4.5%)
